Wat Mahathat (Buddha Tree), Wat Mahathat is probably the biggest surprise of all the temples of Ayutthaya and the heart of the city. Wat Mahathat was built in 1384 at the Royal Rachatirat a relic of the Buddha, but more likely it was during the reign of King Boromaraja built I (1370-1388). 1625 was the outbreak of the Prang, 1633 by about 4 meters (13 feet) higher than it was rebuilt. Then I fell, and survived only in the corners. Discovered in 1956, a secret chamber in the rubble, treasures can be found in gold jewelry, gold coffin with the relics of the Buddha, and porcelain. Wat Mahathat is typical of the ruins of Ayutthaya: Ruins of laterite stupa, surrounded by walls and rows of Buddha head. Tip of the Buddha tree. Wat Lokaya Sutharam; Temple of the Reclining Buddha at Wat Lokayasutharam. Wat Lokayasutharam consists of a group of ruined pillars and a large reclining Buddha image out in the open.
The reclining Buddha statue is made of brick covered with plaster and is about 42 meters long. Vendors in front sell the flowers and incense required to make an offering to the image.
